This course is not about competition rules, statistics, or how to perform specific lifts but rather to challenge the way you think about; coaching, training, and competing. This course has been divided into three principal sections. Under each of the three themes are three chapters. The broad sections of this book are as follows: Part 1: PLAN This first part of the course explains the importance of planning in order to achieve success. The rationale of this section is that those that fail to plan will fail to execute. The planning process must be inclusive and involve the athlete as well as the coach to set out the goals that will eventually be achieved. Part 2: PERFORM Having accomplished the plan in the first part, the next section provides an impetus to execute the plan. That means doing practical activities and sessions that will enable the athlete to pick up on those aspects that the coach wants to improve or introduce to their skill set. This is often one of the most intense parts of the coaching/training session because it requires consistent intentional execution. Part 3: REVIEW This is the retrospective view of the entire process of learning and coaching. Both the coach and the athlete will have an informed view of what went on during the session. This will then provide them with the lessons learned that will eventually ensure that future sessions are much more effective by using what was learned to direct the planning phase.
